No matter what I do, I cannot remove or even adjust the headers and footers to make them smaller in Word I have tried the remove option, I have checked there is no content, I have used the next and previous options under the Header and Footer tab, I have adjusted the header from top and footer from bottom to 0cm, I have consulted a shaman but nothing works!

I just want them removed so I can have my document fit on one page and save paper when printing! Something as simple as this shouldn't be so difficult, is this another design flaw or is there some overly complicated answer? Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Headers and footers are built into Word's document structure. You cannot remove them. All you can do is empty and minimize them.

I have the same question 0. To remove a content control, right-click it, and then choose Remove Content Control from the context menu. Word closes the header and footer area for editing, returning you to the main text of the document. Note: You can also double-click in the main text to return to it from the header or footer.

Likewise, if you can see the header or footer area, you can double-click in it to switch to it. To display and edit an existing header or footer quickly, double-click the dimmed header or footer in Print Layout view.
